Anger
Giancarlo Crocicchia is an Italian photographer who travels all over the world to capture his images. He focuses on human subjects looking straight into the camera. In this photograph titled In Your Eyes a bulky load is balanced precariously on a girl’s head – perhaps containing food or other supplies for her family – yet the girl remains expertly poised. Her straight, proud shoulders and strong neck reveal her functional role within the family, as well as her confidence in her ability to do her part in helping to provide for them.
The eyes, often called the windows to the soul, reveal layers of complexity that belie her young age—fury mixed with vulnerability, defiance tempered with the rawness of youth, and a fierce dignity that demands to be taken seriously.
